With BMW's Next Generation Electric Vehicles, with fossil fuels declining and more environmentally conscious, investment in electric vehicles has increased and electric vehicles continue to be considered as the vehicles of the future.
BMW has taken steps to create a new subclass, the "i" series." These models, which are on show at the Frankfurt motor show, will consist primarily of a compact four-seat BMW i3 designed for short-range city use and a BMW i8 performance car with sporty two-plus two seating eseses, first hinted at in the "EfficientDynamics" concept car.

The city car BMW i3 has an electric drive system that produces 170 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The vehicle has a acceleration time of 0-100 km/h in less than 8 seconds. Weighing 1,250 kg, the i3 has an average range of 150 km. With fast charging, it take 1 hour for the vehicle to reach 80 percent battery capacity.
The sports car BMW i8 has a hybrid power supply. Fuel consumption of the vehicle is 3 liters/100 km. The car, which only consumes electricity and takes 35 km, has a range of 260 km when the petrol engine helps.
The 3-cylinder petrol engine, which rotates the rear wheels on the i8, produces 1.5 litres of turbocharged, 220 hp and 300 Nm of torque. The electric motor, which rotates the front wheels, produces 130 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The total power of the vehicle is 350 hp.
