Hello, we'll be with you periodally in my writing series on Cisco's Approach to Smart Grid Technology, the solutions it offers, and the IP integration of Smart Grid in general. If I mention myself briefly, I am a graduate of Yildiz Technical University Electronics and Communication Engineering. I work as an IP-based network devices specialist as a CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) certificate holder, which means network specialist.
End-to-end connectivity, the most important element of Smart Grid technology in my writing sequences; By addressing issues such as IP-based integration and management of data, I will be clarifying details such as the importance of the current internet environment in the more efficient use of energy and the role of the network in more efficient energy use.
In my first article, I will address the current general situation and difficulties in the energy sector.
Smart Grid – I General Status
Utility operators are experiencing some difficulties in providing suitable devices in parallel with rapid developments and growth in the energy sector. In addition, these companies must meet the increasing demand for power and provide information and communication; "central nervous system of power delivery", i.e. the central power provider must establish a neural system.
We can schematic the overall energy consumption as below. As can be seen from the diagram, there are many variables in energy consumption and the most important element among the variables; these variables communicate with each other at the highest possible level, working integratedly to ensure maximum energy efficiency.

In addition to ensuring the stable operation of this site, "power supply centers" are open to new operational growth; comply with legal obligations in the integration of edible energy sources into the system.
With the integration of network i.e. IP-based systems into analog energy devices, the concept of "Intelligent Energy System" is formed; energy will be "measurable – controllable – automatic – integrated".

With intelligent energy systems, measurable energy can be controlled, energy efficiency will be achieved and a new rational period of energy use will begin.
Of course, there are some difficulties and difficulties that are likely to be in every process transition, changes.
Universal Smart Grid Woes
Universally, we can listed certain problems as follows:
- In efficient and out-of-the-way power grids: many power grid infrastructures around the world are not very expensive; it was built during periods when there were no high energy requirements. With the increasing energy needs, investments were made to provide more energy to meet the growing need for existing grids. Instead of making structural changes to the system, network infrastructures were enlarged with investments that enable "one-way" energy to be transmitted towards demand in order to meet energy demand as soon as possible.
- New regulations and standards: Energy providers and commercial customers must also consider carbon release laws and limits when assessing the increase in energy needs. Many countries have binding laws that limit carbon emissions, while projects that support efficient energy use have encouraging, encouraging work.
- Critical Safety and Compliance Requirement: Some countries have laws that mandate the decyber and physical safety of the transmitting of energy to the consumer. (U.S. NERC-CIP.. ) Also the amount of energy used by the consumer, energy needs. the secure transfer and secure storage of consumer-specific information to data centers, etc.
Cisco's Smart Grid solutions will play an important role as an industry leader in resolving all these and similar problems. Cisco Smart Grid solutions provide intelligent energy industry creation, enabling end-to-end solutions as well as optimizing the energy data obtained to make the most efficient use of energy. I'll be providing all the details with my writing.
General analysis of Cisco Smart Grid solutions, see you in my other article.
